Google Apps Adds New Enterprise Features and Removes Beta Tag
Great news from Google today as they announce that Google Apps (GMail, Google Docs, Google Calendar and Google Talk) is officially out of beta.
This will definitely help drive adoption in the Enterprise who, rightly, do not want to run business critical applications on beta products. It is worth noting that even though Google Apps has been in beta, the Premier Edition has had a 99.9% SLA for quite some time now so today’s announcement is more about confirming what has already been a reality for quite some time.
Google are also releasing a tool that will enable support staff to screen and send email on behalf of others – a feature called email delegation. And to help customers comply with regulations that may exist specific to their industry, Google are enhancing the email retention functionality of Postini that will allow for the creation of policies to determine when email will be purged. Both retention and delegation will soon start to be rolled out to all Premier edition domains over the next few weeks.
Finally, Google have announced that they are continuing to implement additional procedures to ensure that premier edition customers enjoy even greater reliability: live replication of data to other locations for near-instant disaster recovery, and special handling of business users‘ data in their data center operations.
